'Cia Fornaroli in Casanova a Venezia, Scala Milano' [1929]

A recently completed exhibition at the New York Public Library for Performing Arts - '500 Years of Italian Dance: Treasures from the Cia Fornaroli Collection' - is presented online in essentially 2 sections.

In addition to the above exhibition site which has extensive background, there are 308 engravings, etchings and lithographic prints available via the NYPL Digital Gallery.

Most of the above images (click for full sized versions) have been background cleaned slightly. A couple of them were cleaned extensively to a point that hopefully remains somewhere south of overt editorial intrusion. Some of the images in the exhibition site don't appear (to me) to be in the gallery, just by the by. [via]
